today was pandemonium. children running around. children running around, ripping their belts off and licking one another. children running around, carrying massive tree branches from the recently knocked over almond tree, and hitting one another about the head… this was just a portion of the day. grade 6 put on a small, impromptu concert for the school… it wasn’t anywhere near the calibre of last year, but it was still something. unfortunately with all the screaming and shouting i didn’t hear any of it. all day, zane had asked to borrow my ipod looking for a song for him and fabian to sing. all the cultural icons left him shaking his head and he claimed he couldn’t find anything he liked… what did zane and fabian choose to sing for heroes day?? vybz kartel’s slow motion; with the grade 6 girls whining in the background. oh man, i had no words. when it finished marie and i made a run for it in the rain and headed to reading prep for selassie and asam’s pta meeting. rocksan and i opted to hangout and wait by the playground, where selassie kept us company for an hour. i started seeing stars and it was then i realized i hadn’t eaten anything from morning and it was nearing 5pm. we stopped at the rasta cook shop between anchovy and mount carey and i picked up a small box lunch of ital: bulgur brown rice, stewed peas and curry chunks. delicious and just what i needed to restore some energy. asam and selassie did not enjoy theirs and then it turned into a discussion about how they are hypocrites and they need to decide if they want to eat meat or be rasta.
