today was peace corps jamaica’s newfound venture, volunteer day. the office closes and the staff break off into teams of two to visit volunteers across the island. i was a lucky chosen volunteer, along with a few others… ann and jason arrived right before break time, marie and i were in the middle of a science lesson on energy. i was in the midst of answering questions and grading workbooks when they came. i introduced them to all of the teachers and showed them around to all of the classes. they accompanied me to my class, where we began mathematics, jason answered some questions and ann headed to grade 4 to help out with a communication task assignment about “on the way to school…” i confiscated something like 14 cell phones that morning, all the kids were giving me a hard time because they wanted to use the calculators and not their heads.
they stayed for lunch with my teachers and principal. following lunch, ms. palmer, the grade one teacher had mentioned something about cheap tomatoes in amity, so ann said she would surely like to buy some… before i knew it jason, ann, ms. palmer and myself were off to amity to load up on tomatoes. they dropped us off and made their way to visit thinh at his school.
