from early morning asha had come over and we looked about coconuts… or i should say i looked about the coconuts and she watched and criticized. i was proud to walk away with two dry coconuts; she was less than impressed. we took turns chopping the husks away and then chopping up the flesh to make drops. i invited all the kids up to join us… meanwhile, asha and i had done all the prep work. cudjoe finally came up to look about to the coconuts for us, to find we had managed, but we begged another two, just to make sure we would have enough to share with everybody. eventually, hours later, the rest of the kids showed up. as they showed up, they played a game of marbles and football. chubby was the selector for the day, keeping us well entertained. my yard turned into a drops factory, we ended up with about 24 plus drops. cudjoe came by and took austin along to hang out at the bus stop while i finished up with the kids. we feasted on drops all afternoon on the overhang, watching all of seaford below. asha and jessie were headed to lambs river, so they came over, bathed and then we all headed out. i met up with the gang down at the bus stop and so began the night… as time grew chillier and darker, kat was assigned to look about some sip for everyone. eventually we all warmed up with the help of the sip and we sat around chatting. they all started talking about how my time was soon coming to an end and everyone started getting sentimental. they all reminded me seaford would no longer be the same without my presence because i had become an official ‘seafordtonian’. this went on pretty much the rest of the night. i tried to quell their anxieties and fears i wouldn’t come to look for them post-peace corps, reassuring them i couldn’t be so foolish to act so. it was a well-enjoyed night, but due to the cold weather we eventually headed home.
