this was the week of the week-long dead yard… mape’s grandmother recently passed away and in conjunction, the guys up the bush decided enough was enough and the week before they began clearing out the narrow, overgrown pathway into a proper road. the place in no way resembled it’s previous state… now it was a wide and cleared road, solidified by maul. it was beautiful. they labored relentlessly and it showed. every night leading up to the official dead yard were met with get-togethers at cootay and mape’s yard. now that the road was accessible, everyone found the time to visit. the night of the dead yard found john crow hill packed with vehicles leading up all the way to their yard, met with makeshift lights guiding the way… people came from far and wide. the yard was packed. food, dominoes, drinks, music and people all around. we found a nice spot on the hill and set camp. as early morning approached, we all headed to my yard for coffee and socializing. as the sun was peeping out people found a place to rest their head and when i awaked the next morning i found everyone had dispersed back to their respective homes. i washed and cleaned and once finished i headed down to marie’s yard. i met up with mama, rocksan, erika, nadine and marie and we all headed to the church for the funeral. a large crowd had already congregated inside. we found seats in the back and took in the service. afterwards we camped outside as they went to the gravesite… i caught up with kat and carl while the girls chatted about the funeral. we made a trip to the gas station for some peanut soup and rocksan, pet, marie and i had a nice catch-up. afterwards we picked up all the girls and dropped off pet, nadine and then headed home.
